My to do list for January and February.
Let’s get started right off the bat. 2025 Garden Season is upon us.
My Happy Garden Composition notebook is my number one go to for the past 4 years. I started this when we first started planning our raised garden beds here a The Roost. I use it for future planting ideas, jotting freeze and planting dates, crop rotation and to look back on what worked in that spot and what didn’t.
Farmers Almanac Garden Planner. This is a month by month and daily planner. I write the dates I started seeds, color coded for the company each seed packets came from, recording progress, logging temperatures, planting reminders, spraying fruit tree reminders, cover crop planting, tips from local farmers at my garden class I take at the farmers market and so much more
Inventorying seeds. I love my storage containers (you can find them in my shop) and it makes inventorying so easy. Checking expiration dates on each packet, I do not use if they are more than three years old. Then I will make a list of what I will need for herbs, veggies and flowers.
Seed catalogs: They are arriving at The Roost starting back in November and December. Here are a few of my favorites
~ Botanical Interests
~ Eden Brothers
~ Burpee
~ Baker Creek
Perusing through them I get so excited. I always add a few NEW veggie or flowers to my lists.
Turn the cover crop. I’m not sure if I will till this year or just flip. But I will get rid of any debris that won’t compost well.
I started my tomato and pepper plants and they are on heat mats under the lights.
Once beds are flipped I will throw in some poppy and pea seeds to get just a bit of cold to them to help them germinate.
Cut down all the asparagus ferns that are dried up.
I flipped the compost for hopes of some rain to break it down some more so I can get it in the beds next month
Planted my cabbage, broccoli, kale and cabbage seedlings in a composted bed.
.
I hope this list gives you a little idea for what to do in your area. But reminder we are in planting zone 7b.
Find your zone at USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map and 2025 Frost dates for your area.
