Welcome to Imperfect Balance By Jenn~

I finally have my forever garden~

While my husband was active duty, I tried to have raised garden beds, a garden plot or planting in containers where ever we were stationed. During deployments and training and the kids were napping, it was my escape. There is just something about getting your hands dirty and growing your own food. Putting it on your table or sharing with neighbors brought me such JOY..

I have since tried to to build that here at The Roost. Guiding you through garden planning, designing and seed starting. Yes I share the “Do’s and Don’ts” that I have learned and the struggles and experiments.

Creating recipes from the gardens or recipes I have found using what we have grown is still my favorite. I hope it will be for you as well.

I share all of this and more here and on my socials ( click links below )

I hope you will join me.

We added chickens~

This has been a “learning as we go”experience. I do name each one, Martha and Mary, Gypsy, Bella, Ruth, Camille, Red, Nora, and our little one eyed blind girl, Nugget, was in the first batch. Bella and Red are still with us.

Unfortunately, we lost several to hawks and bobcats so we decided to keep a cockerel name George, to help protect the girls. We had a few extra cockerels in our last shipment, though we gave some away but decided to keep one, named Gus.

With our laying hens, we decide to experimented with Guinea Hens, I was told they are “protectors” and added Cornish Game Hens to bring to our table.
